Default Looking for something new!

Well, here I am. Thoroughly sick of almost every single MMO out there. 7 years of WoW off and on is about enough if you ask me. I tried Guild Wars many years ago shortly after its release and it didn't stick. I think it's time to try again.

It sucks starting a new game because I will be spending more time reading the forums for information that I probably will be playing. At least for a short time. It looks as if I will be starting a ranger. I have read that this profession is good at solo gameplay later on. This is good since I am a rare/special item type of freak. I love to farm rare items in just about any game that I play. I love being able to twink out my alts with the best possible gear.

I am not sure how the chat system works in-game yet, but look forward to making new friends along the way. It seems that alot of the information floating around is kinda old, but I am hoping that not much has changed.

Anyways; I will always be looking for new people to meet and would love any and all advise on getting down to the nitty gritty.

Merry xmas everyone!

If solo farming is what you're after, you might be disappointed with the ranger. The premiere solo farming class in the game is Assassin, though other professions have their niches depending on the type of foes/areas being farmed.

You might want to check out our Campfire Section to brush up on the various professions, paying special attention to the Farming and End-Game subforums.

Typical money-making farms are speed clears, and there are usually specific team compositions and builds to accomplish them. You might be at a disadvantage if you don't have all the campaigns.

Not to say that it's not possible -- plenty of people farmed goodies back when it was just Prophecies -- but you will be limited in that regard.

Ranger is a fine class, my first and main is a ranger. But when I farm with it, I run a ritualist build, if that tells you anything.

Lastly, the only thing that makes elite gear "elite" is the looks. Any player has access to max weapons and armor very early on and for little money. That said, we do have shiny stuff to chase, and filling up your Hall of Monuments with your collections and achievements will earn you shinies in GW2, if you'll be heading that way.

Good luck. Have fun.

Check out GWPvX.com to see what the popular builds in certain areas is.
Now I'm NOT saying you should just copy/paste, but it gives you an indication of what to aim for, which skills seems better to invest in, etc, if you have your goal set from the start.

Hi Shalara, welcome to Guild Wars, and Merry Christmas to you too!

Yes, it is a very good idea to have basic knowledge of the game (items, quests, whatever else there is that can be labelled as basic). Wiki is very much your friend. If you can't find it on there, try typing it a different way (I've found it to be VERY picky), and if that fails, search in these forums. You never know, it may save you from merching a green (like I did 2 days into the game -.-)!

I hope you enjoy your experience here! If you want any help in-game, message me (whispering) as Lana Darkess (no N, it is not DarkNess). I'm always happy to help =]

Congrats on Ranger. My main. God mode in hard mode with a good party.

Rangers can also farm with SoS spirit spam.

Ive been playing for almost 5 yrs now - and im still spending time reading on the forums and wiki etc.Way things are with gw and gwbeyond almost everyone has checked for info so dont despair - with every skill change anet does changes some aspects of the game for pvp / pve ( remember what skills get changed also changes for the foes ).
A player who researches will always have the upper hand over a player who goes in unprepared.
